Welcome to Functional Physio & Pilates

Here at Functional Physiotherapy and Pilates, Jo and Catherine will work in collaboration with you to help you reach your full potential and to help you live and move well.

Our completely personalised experience will move you as quickly as possible from pain to recovery, then recovery to strength, and strength to wellness. To do that we follow three simple steps.

Step 1

Will listen, recognise and evaluate to ensure that we diagnose your condition through a thorough assessment, diagnostic tests, and measures. This will help us find the root cause of your injury or pain and in turn, help you return to your work or normal activities as soon as possible.

Tell us your story – what’s holding you back from what you like doing and how the problem occurred.

Step 2

Keep you on track towards your goals with a graduated plan specific to your situation. We use a range of evidence-based techniques including mobilisations, manipulations, soft tissue release, dry needling, and Pilates-based exercise programmes. If you are best served by specialties outside our expertise, we will refer you elsewhere to the correct specialist.

Help us to help you by taking an active part in your treatment.

Step 3

Let’s help you move from pain to recovery, and help you achieve your goals.

We are Chartered and registered with the Health Professions Council.

We are based within Sonning Common Health Centre, Oxfordshire, near Reading and Henley-on-Thames.

If you have any queries that you cannot find the answer to, please contact us here.

Assessment and Treatment

Between us we have a wealth of experience and what sets us apart is our detailed assessment and clinical reasoning skills to determine the most effective treatment for each patient. Following a detailed assessment, an individual treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you.

Jo has restarted face-to-face Pilates classes from Jan 2023. These are run in two different halls in Sonning Common: Christ The King Church Hall, Sedgewell Rd, and Peppard War Memorial Hall, Gallowstree Rd. Please do get in touch to register your interest and discuss joining one of our popular classes. These are also run in 6 week blocks at £75/block.

We have one online Zoom class: Thursday at 6.30pm with Catherine. This is run in 6 week blocks @ £54/block.

Wherever possible, we will offer you an alternative class in any given week should you not be able to make your regular class. We do ask that you give us as much notice so that numbers can be monitored.

Shockwave Therapy

Here at Functional Physiotherapy, we use shockwave therapy for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, it uses a specialist device to deliver acoustic energy or sound waves through the skin to the injured part of the body. The shockwaves are mechanical and not electric. They are audible, low-energy sound waves, which increase the blood flow to the injured area. It feels like a firm, rapid tapping against the skin.

In certain instances with some insurance companies, we will invoice the insurance company directly. If you wish for the clinic to provide this service, it is important that you bring all of your insurance membership details and authorisation details with you to your first appointment.

We’re afraid that we do not have a contract with Vitality and therfore cannot offer treatment to clients wishing to use them for treatment reimbursement.

Please note that there will be a surcharge applied to all Bupa and AXA assessments and treatments as they do not cover our full fees.
